Who are the Ludington O-BOTS?
The Ludington O-BOTS are part of the FIRST Robotics Competition. FIRST is an acronym: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST is an international program whose goal is to inspire young people to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules and limited time and resources, teams of high school students are challenged to build industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game in alliance with other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals, designing a team “brand,” and advancing respect and appreciation for STEM within the local community.
The Ludington O-BOTS were formed during the 2017-2018 season. With the help of Coaches, Mentors and the community the team had a successful first year. The groundwork was laid to help our team prosper and grow and to help our students learn and enjoy everything FIRST and STEM has to offer. With that being said we still have a lot to accomplish. Fundraising, building maintenance, learning workshops and training sessions, along with setting up student leadership roles to name a few. We still have some challenges to overcome but our goal is to provide a fun and safe way to learn new skills in STEM fields and foster the spark of future leaders.
